We're still seeing lots of variations of the "cold" shoulder in the recent trends. Whether it's one shoulder, cold shoulder, off the shoulder or somewhere in between, these styles are still popular and in no rush to disappear.

Not all off the shoulder tops are made the same. Have you noticed? Depending on the style, fabric and elastic these tops can fit very differently. One issue you can encounter is having the elastic top bunch up on you. Continuously pulling down your shirt can be a hassle. You also want to have movement of your arms. There's nothing worse than not being able to move your arms because your top is too constraining. That simply will not do.

So I wanted to share this recent purchase with you. I picked up this top at Banana Republic recently. It is not only comfortable but also flattering and versatile. I was a little unsure at first because I ordered it online and was afraid it might be too wide combined with the large sleeves leaving an overwhelming and unflattering feeling. Turns out, not the case at all. The top is streamlined and the neckline offsets any feeling of the top being overwhelming. Additionally the long tie sleeves help to keep the top and neckline in place.

So if you've been unsatisfied with the off the shoulder trend, this might be a top worth checking out. It's currently available in 3 colors/prints and at a very reasonable price point. Happy Shopping!

A Few Trendy Favorites

This season is full of trends and I have a few favorites of my own. As I've mentioned before, I personally gravitate towards a preppy/classic wardrobe. But I love to incorporate new trends that I think will work for me. Here area few of my favorite pieces that I've found so far for Spring/Summer, just to give you a little inspiration!

DSW: Franco Sarto Cameron Wedge Sandal

DSW: Franco Sarto Cameron Wedge Sandal

These wedge sandals are very popular right now. They come in a variety of colors and styles but the most popular are beige or gray covering most of the shoe and looking more a cross between a sandal and a bootie. These look great with jeans or pixie pants and when the weather is warmer, we'll see them with shorts too! The fact that they are super comfortable (thank you wedge heel) is a total bonus!

J.Crew: One Shoulder Ruffle Top in Eyelet

J.Crew: One Shoulder Ruffle Top in Eyelet

Off the shoulder continues on and in particular for Spring/Summer, the one shoulder trend! We're also seeing lots of eyelet and ruffles. This one top combines all three! There is lots of versatility in this top to dress it up or down. The ruffles offer a great feminine touch.

J.Crew Factory: Ruffle Linen Off the Shoulder Top

J.Crew Factory: Ruffle Linen Off the Shoulder Top

If you're interested in a more traditional off the shoulder piece, this top is a steal from J.Crew Factory. The linen fabric is perfect for summer. The elastic off the shoulder is comfortable and easy to wear. It's simple yet trendy, which I love. Again, this piece offers a lot of versatility to dress for multiple occasions.

Ann Taylor: The Wide Leg Marina Pant

Ann Taylor: The Wide Leg Marina Pant

Wide leg pants are everywhere right now! This trend is popular and classic. This pair from Ann Taylor is comfortable and trendy. It comes in a variety of neutral colors and prints (regular and petite sizes). Wide leg pants should be paired with a more fitting tops as not to look like your clothing is overwhelming you (especially if you are petite). These pants can be paired with any heel but look great dressed up with a pair of block or stiletto heels!

The Dress of the Season!

This dress is everywhere. (Pictured above: J. Crew One-shoulder ruffle dress) Go to your favorite website or brand and type in one shoulder ruffle dress and you’ll most likely find at least one dress that mirrors this style. Some versions are cinched at the waist. Others have a ruffle at the bottom. Lengths, fabric and colors vary. But the one shoulder ruffle dress will be in full swing this spring/summer season. However, is this dress right for you?

Just because a trend takes over, doesn’t mean it’s right for everyone. The off the shoulder trend has been incredibly popular but it doesn’t flatter every body type. In the end, trends aside, you want to buy what looks good on you. The only way to know if a new style will flatter you is to try it on. No time pop into a store? Buy a version online and try on at home. What’s your first thought when you look in the mirror?

If you’re first reaction is positive, I think we’re on to something! However, if your first thought is how to tailor this dress to look better on you… then maybe not. Or if your initial reaction is not immediately positive, then be critical of the style. Don’t feel you have to fit the trend. It has to work for you!

With that said, this trend is going to come in a variety of variations. Both one shoulder and off the shoulder will come with ruffles on top, on the bottom and everywhere in between. If this one style doesn’t work for you but you’re set on participating in the trend, keep an eye out for a variation that will flatter you! (And even though I've only highlighted variations of blue below - this dress will be available in other colors... I promise!)
