Brunch Plans???

It's Mother's Day weekend and we will be celebrating all the wonderful mother's in our lives this Sunday. One of the most popular ways of celebrating is over brunch! So whether it's mother's day brunch or brunch any other weekend, are you ready to dress for it?

Depending on your destination and the occasion, brunch attire can vary. But now that we're into Spring, florals and pastels make for great go to items. It's nice to have the excuse to dress it up a little every now and then. Take brunch plans as a perfect excuse!

Look for feminine, sophisticated and chic which also keeping it comfortable and simple. If that sounds like a lot to ask, it's not! Ruffles and pastels make for great feminine touches. Look at recent trends (off the shoulder for example) to add a little chic to your look. A Few Trendy Favorites

This season is full of trends and I have a few favorites of my own. As I've mentioned before, I personally gravitate towards a preppy/classic wardrobe. But I love to incorporate new trends that I think will work for me. Here area few of my favorite pieces that I've found so far for Spring/Summer, just to give you a little inspiration!

DSW: Franco Sarto Cameron Wedge Sandal

These wedge sandals are very popular right now. They come in a variety of colors and styles but the most popular are beige or gray covering most of the shoe and looking more a cross between a sandal and a bootie. These look great with jeans or pixie pants and when the weather is warmer, we'll see them with shorts too! The fact that they are super comfortable (thank you wedge heel) is a total bonus!

J.Crew: One Shoulder Ruffle Top in Eyelet

Off the shoulder continues on and in particular for Spring/Summer, the one shoulder trend! We're also seeing lots of eyelet and ruffles. This one top combines all three! There is lots of versatility in this top to dress it up or down. The ruffles offer a great feminine touch.

J.Crew Factory: Ruffle Linen Off the Shoulder Top

If you're interested in a more traditional off the shoulder piece, this top is a steal from J.Crew Factory. The linen fabric is perfect for summer. The elastic off the shoulder is comfortable and easy to wear. It's simple yet trendy, which I love. Again, this piece offers a lot of versatility to dress for multiple occasions.

Ann Taylor: The Wide Leg Marina Pant

Wide leg pants are everywhere right now! This trend is popular and classic. This pair from Ann Taylor is comfortable and trendy. It comes in a variety of neutral colors and prints (regular and petite sizes). Wide leg pants should be paired with a more fitting tops as not to look like your clothing is overwhelming you (especially if you are petite). These pants can be paired with any heel but look great dressed up with a pair of block or stiletto heels!

Put a little more FUN in your wardrobe for Summer

I happened to be alone in the car the other day and Madonna's Like A Virgin came on the radio. I haven't heard this song in ages but of course I remember every word. As I'm singing along in my car, I think back on when I was young (growing up in the 80's) and how we would dress up in high 80's fashion. It was fun! Maybe we looked a bit ridiculous but we certainly had fun.

As we get older I think we lose a little bit of that. When we're younger and have the time to get all dolled up for a night out, it's easy to have fun with our look. As we get older, with more responsibilities and less time, getting dressed becomes a hassle we don't have time for. Suddenly coordinating outfits and looking put together is a burden. We forget to have fun with it.

I think that if we could remember to add some of that fun back int our wardrobe it might make a difference in our mood and confidence levels. There are all kinds of fun styles in retail now, we just need to considering adding them to our closet. They may not be the items we would naturally gravitate toward these days. We tend to buy for more practical reasons. Items for work, a dress for a wedding, clothes for the gym... this is how we shop. But what if we shopped for items that we thought were fun?

Don't these girls look like they're having fun? From the retro sunglasses to the endless ruffles, these looks are simply fun. Don't we need a little bit of this in our lives? Go back and listen to a little high energy 80's Madonna or Cyndi Lauper and you'll be feeling it before you know it! What makes clothes and accessories fun is personal. Your idea of what is fun for your wardrobe won't be the same as someone else's. Just like the idea of style, it's based on your personal preferences. Find what makes you smile when you shop. It might be bright bold color or vintage styles. There are no rules to follow. Just wear what makes you feel good when you look in a mirror!
