Dresses of the Season

I went to Anthropologie today to make a quick return. As I stood at the register, I looked around and thought about how I loved all the color in the space and how much I want to go back and shop. After a winter wardrobe full of black, gray and other neutrals, I'm so ready for spring colors!

The lovely feminine silhouettes in pastels and spring prints are so inviting. Everything is light and effortless. It's the opposite of what we've been living the last 6 months and we simply can't wait to be consumed by it. The downside here of course is that if I were to purchase one of these lovely items it will be sitting in my closet for a little while since Mother Nature doesn't seem to be getting on board with the warmer temperatures of spring.

I'm in love with all the floral patterns and colors of this spring season. However, this color pallette doesn't always work for all skin tones. Be sure to try items on and be honest about how the color works for you. Try different shades of color to see what might work best for you.  The latest arrivals at Anthropologie are totally inviting after a long winter. The dress collection in particular is begging for a warm weather getaway. Need inspiration? Look no further...

Is it Spring yet??

I just got back from a sunny warm vacation and I am in full spring mode. Only I've come back to 30 degree temperatures. Clearly Mother Nature and I have our signals crossed. I've had a taste of warmer temps and I'm now done with winter. It's time to move on. Bring on spring.

Even getting a manicure this weekend the girl next to me was talking to the technician about the new spring colors and what to look forward to. We're all feeling the need to move on from a cold winter. I know you're with me!

So as I am looking through my backup of mail I am starting to see some of the new spring fashions make their way into the retail new arrivals. Easter is just a couple weeks away and if you're in need of a dress, there are options available. One of the trends I am currently in love with is the flowy floral maxi dress. The feminine nature of these dresses is classic spring. The soft silhouette is flattering on multiple body types. They are also incredibly comfortable to wear. The ease of this style will make it a quick favorite.

Here is one example that I recently saw in a mailer that I received from Black House White Market and instantly fell in love with:

Keep an eye out for this style as I expect you'll see it often this spring. Happy shopping!

Functional can be Fashionable

Living in New England there are items that we have to have in our closets just to survive the weather. We think of these as necessities and as a result probably don't think of them as some of the more fashionable items in our wardrobe. If I'm planning an outfit for an event, and I find out that it's going to rain, this will definitely put a damper on my plan. I'll think "the weather is getting in the way of my cute outfit."

But just because these items need to be functional does not mean that they can't also be fashionable. There are plenty of brands that are coming around to the idea of making the functional items that we need a bit more fashionable. Suddenly our necessary weather related items can be a bit more fun.

One great example of this is a pair of Sorel boots I recently purchased from J.Crew. I have a pair of tall Sorel boots that are great for winter snow storms but I was looking for something that I could wear when walking in the slush and the rain. When you don't need a full snow boot but you don't want to ruin your shoes with the wet outdoor conditions, you need a weather boot that will get you through. Well, these are the answer.

These adorable boots were so popular that they sold out very quickly. However, there is currently another similar pair available online at J.Crew and on sale!

For sizing recommendations: I found that they run slightly on the smaller side so order a half size larger than you regularly wear. These will not only keep your feet dry and comfortable, they will be a great fashionable addition to your wardrobe!
