Set Your Style Goals for 2020

What do you want your style to say about you this year? How do you want your style to make you feel? What changes do you want to make to your wardrobe to better flatter your body and your personality? Have you ever thought about your wardrobe in this way?

I would say that most of us don’t think about our wardrobe in a strategic way. But we should. How do you decide on what to buy and how to fill your closet? We should be choosing items that fit not only our bodies but also our lifestyles. We should be choosing items that compliment what we love about your current wardrobe. We should be donating items that sit in our closets unworn month after month.

When you start to think about your wardrobe in this way it can be both overwhelming and empowering. In order to feel more empowered than overwhelmed, try to think of it in steps. First steps are to clean out your closet and donate items you no longer use. Only keep what you love and what fits. Now look at what is left and make a list of what you need to fill out that wardrobe. Start with the very basics. What do you need for your everyday life? This answer will be different for everyone. Think about where you go, the places that you frequent, and what you need to wear to those places.

Perhaps you got hung up on the part where I mentioned “fit”. Perhaps you sped right by it but shouldn’t have. Let’s stop here for a moment. How do you define the right fit for your body? We need to be brutal when trying things on. Take a good look in the mirror. Are the seams hitting all the right places? Is the hem where it should be? What about the length? The right fit for your body should flatter your shape. And because everyone is shaped differently the clothes you try on will not fit you the same way they do the model… any model.

This is where it makes sense to focus your efforts first. You might be thinking… what comes next? Once you’ve got a handle on the basics, you can start thinking about colors, textures, patterns. What silhouettes and necklines flatter you most? What clothing gives you confidence and why? When you start to break down your wardrobe this way, it can actually make shopping and deciding what you wear in the morning, much easier.

So here is to a bright and bold new year! Make all your style goals now and let’s get started.

It’s hard to find styles that are universally flattering. In lieu of such, see some examples of simple silhouettes from J. Crew below to give you an idea of where to start.

Reflections on 2018 from Beacon Style

As I look back on 2018 both personally and professionally, it has been a big year. Besides the amazing people that I’ve met this year through this business, Beacon Style debuted on Instagram and went to New York Fashion Week. Instagram has presented an amazing opportunity to reach a new audience and play on a new platform. NYFW was a spectacular opportunity to be a part of the world I love to admire from the outskirts.

I attended the TIbi fashion show and was blown away. Tibi expresses a classic, chic, effortless style that speaks to me. These clothes are a slightly unique spin on classics with just the right amount of trendy thrown in for good measure. The quality of these items is on par with the price point. The fabrics are enticing and durable. These are definitely investment pieces. They will last in your closet, one season to the next.

One of my goals in 2019, is to be more thoughtful about the items I add to my wardrobe. Often we get caught shopping last minute for an event that we may have forgotten about. For which, we probably purchase something that isn’t quite right for us (due to time constraints). Wouldn’t it be great if you had that perfect go to outfit for any occasion already sitting in your wardrobe? That’s the goal. Build up a quality wardrobe that answers any invite. Tibi is a great place to start. And lucky for you…. it’s sale time.

So during my trip to New York this fall, I had the opportunity to pop into the Tibi shop and try things on. You can see a few of the outfits I tried on below, many of which are now on sale.

So if you’re interested in building up that basic “go to” investment wardrobe, now is a great time to start. Invest a little extra in yourself this coming year. Take a little time for yourself. Invest in things that are going to make your life easier. Take the time to clean out your closet and take inventory of what you have. Shop smart. Let go of items you no longer use. Do a little something to pamper yourself.

Here are some of my favorites from the Tibi end of season sale. What an amazing year it has been. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2019!

What to expect from this blog in 2017

I have so much to share this year! I have made some new resolutions for the blog and pulled together a host of new ideas to share. Over the last year, I’ve been getting great feedback from you all on what you want to hear more of and what you love about the blog. I’m planning to incorporate that into my plan for the New Year in hopes of making this your go to destination for tips, inspiration and information.

I’m looking forward to starting a series of posts on how to tackle your wardrobe. We will start with creating a great basics foundation, how to identify your personal style and how to shop smarter. I want you to be able to identify items that can make your wardrobe go further. I will show you how to incorporate trends into your wardrobe and how to reach your style goals.

I want to make your wardrobe less intimating. I want you to view leaving the house polished and put together as a less daunting task. I want to make it easy. I want to give you tips that can help make this possible.

I know that some of you find your wardrobe overwhelming. You hate to shop. You don’t have time to coordinate an outfit. Maybe you’ve never been able to find the right fit. Maybe you’ve had children and your clothes don’t fit the way they use to. Maybe your body has changed due to surgery, age, weight loss/gain and you don’t know how to dress your new body.

I want to help. I want you to find the tools you need to tackle your wardrobe one step at a time. I want you to get dressed in the morning and feel polished and confident. I want you to smile when you look in a mirror.

All of this is possible. Maybe not all at once but it can be accomplished one step at a time. Make this the year that you set aside a little time for style goals. If you feel good in what you are wearing, it will have a positive impact on every aspect of your life. Start here. Start now!
