All the Shoes you need for Fall

Fall is here. Whether I like it or not. No surprise I’m slow to get into fall but seeing that Halloween is around the corner and my front walkway if FULL of leaves, I have no choice but to jump on board. One of the hardest things for me is to transition into fall footwear. I love my sandals and flip flops immensely. So I need to have some fancy footwear in my closet to make my transition to my fall wardrobe a little more inviting.

This season’s trends in footwear are showcasing animal prints front and center. Prints and textures are on trend and available in a wide variety of styles from heels to flats, booties and mules. There is an array of options available for your evening out, day at work or errand run. The beauty of these animal prints is that they are all considered neutrals and therefore easily coordinated with any print/color combination.

If you’re looking for an easy way to update your fall wardrobe this season, start with a new pair of trendy and versatile footwear! Whether you’re most comfortable in wedge heels, flats or sneakers… there is absolutely something for you in the latest trends! The Open Toe Ankle Bootie

I love the look of an open toe ankle bootie. With that said, I resisted buying a pair at first. I couldn't figure out when I would ever wear it! I like more practical items that I can get more use out of. These do not fall into that category. They have to be worn in perfect weather... just a hint of cool and completely dry. When does that weather pattern happen? Well, now actually!

End of Summer/Beginning of Fall is a great time for these shoes! They can be very versatile in your wardrobe so you can get a decent number of wears in during the season if you pair them with everything! From jeans to skirts, dresses and more, these ankle booties will go casual on the weekend, dress up for dinner out and then get serious for work on Monday!

I love the look of an ankle bootie with a dress or a skirt but hesitated to wear it as I'm only 5'1. As a petite gal, ankle booties are usually not recommended because they cut your leg at your ankle and give the illusion of being shorter than you are. Not something you want as a petite. However, I noticed that an ankle bootie in a nude color didn't have that same affect. So don't feel left out fellow petites... in a nude color, you too can pull of this look with a dress or skirt!

Here is a pair that I purchased a couple of years ago from Ann Taylor. They cut out detail offers that little something extra to these nude booties!

Ankle Booties for Petites...

A little advice for petite gals looking to wear ankle boots:

Ankle boots continue to be hugely popular. The trouble specifically for petites is that the ankle boot can cut your leg just above the ankle and make you look shorter.  Following this logic, petites are also advised to stay away from ankle straps for the same reason. The best way to make you look taller and extend your leg is to wear nude pointy pumps. But just like everyone else, we want to take part in current trends. The good news is there are ways for us petite ladies (I fall into this category) to make the ankle boot trend work for us!

  • Wedge heels: Adding a little height is always a good idea. Ankle booties come in all kinds of styles (flat, heel and wedge included). So if you can find a wedge style that catches your eye that will absolutely help. Try to stay away from a thick heel (any height). This will add thickness where you don’t want it. You might think that the wedge would have the same effect but in fact, not. The wedge heel tends to be slimmer and doesn’t have the same effect that a think heel will have on your look.
  • Stiletto heels: The slim heel gives your legs a slender look. These will look great with anything.
  • Pointy toes: Just like any other shoe, the pointy toe will extend your leg and help you look a little taller. Even if you don’t want to do a full pointed toe, there are toe styles that are going to lean further towards a point than others. Try to avoid a full rounded toe; it will not work to your advantage.
  • Keep embellishments to a minimum: You want to avoid styles with too many buckles or straps. A clean simple ankle boot is going to work best for petites. Too many embellishments will add weight and make your legs look thicker.  If you want to look slim and elongate your leg, keep it simple on the bottom half.
  • If you are wearing with a skirt or dress: Keep the skirt or dress short to elongate the look of your legs. You want to keep the length to your knees or above. Anything longer will not have a flattering effect with an ankle boot on a petite frame.
  • If you are wearing with jeans: Make sure your jeans are skinny and minimize any space between the top of your boot and your jean. You don’t want to wear crop jeans that show a couple inches of bare skin between your jeans and your boots. This will work against you. To keep the look sleek and slim make sure your jeans end at your ankles. Also, keep your top on the shorter side to elongate your legs. Try to stay away from pairing ankle boots with a tunic length top or a longer sweater/coat. Your best bets are shorter tops that hit at the hips or above.

So off you go to buy your cute ankle boots!
