I was born and raised in Boston. I continue to live here and love it for the most part. Every winter I swear I'm moving South or West to escape the dreadful weather but alas, I'm still here.
In the end, I love the seasons. It makes a great place for style and fashion because we wear it all... from parkas to bikinis and back in the course of a year.
So now it's the beginning of June. We are near the end of Spring and beginning of Summer. We've been lucky this year to have a few very warm days so far which have called for the light summer dresses and flip flops to be taken out of storage. Once this happens, all the winter things are quickly stored away. I have no desire to see any of it until October! But then the following week the weather starts to get a bit cooler. And inevitably the question of what to wear in this in between season becomes an issue.
It's mid 50s in the morning, rising to about 65 (maybe warmer in the sun). It feels too cold for sandals or the light twill jacket in your closet. Time to layer up! The last thing you want to do is go back to anything related to your fall or winter wardrobe. I personally have a few summer sweaters that are perfect for this weather. You want something light. Look for cotton or linen. Cardigans work great too. And I also suggest scarves which can give a bit of warmth and also be a nice detail on an outfit.
The other problem I find in this weather is what to wear for shoes. Ugh. I just want to wear flip flops constantly. But this weather can be a bit too cold for that and even for the sandals that I'm also dying to wear. And it's not really boot weather anymore. So the in between seems to suggest a ballet flat, or an open toe shoe. I also find that espadrilles or Tom's work well.
So an ideal outfit for tomorrow morning...for those of you looking for inspiration: jeans, Tom's, a short sleeve T, crewneck summer sweater with a light scarf and that cute twill jacket. Over the course of the day, feel free to de-layer as needed. Here's to hoping the sun warms us up!
