Black Friday Shopping

I can't believe that it's already Thanksgiving! I probably say this every year but this Fall has gone by especially quick for me. Last year I waited too long to start my holiday shopping and found that I was stuck last minute shopping for gifts and absolutely hated the experience. So when it finally hit me last week that Thanksgiving is upon us, I started shopping!

I love shopping for gifts when I have time to think about what I want to get for each person and don't feel rushed to simply get whatever is available in stores. So I'm putting thoughts into my gifts this year and I'll be sure to share some gift giving ideas with you in future posts.

Historically, I've always kicked off my holiday shopping on Black Friday. My sister and I have a long standing tradition of getting up early and shopping the Black Friday deals. Over the years, we've made out pretty well. Now, I know that some people avoid the malls at all cost on Black Friday. I get it. Black Friday is not for everyone.... it can be rough! But if you plan ahead, it doesn't have to be a terrible experience.

In order to make the most of Black Friday, I suggest you follow a few simple rules:

(1) Know what you want to purchase ahead of time. That way you can focus your efforts on finding that item at the best price.

(2) Subscribe to emails from the retail brands/stores that you are interested in shopping on Black Friday. Most stores will send out an email on Thursday night/Friday morning telling you what their online and in store offers are for Black Friday. This can save you LOTS of time. First thing I do is check my email! Compare who has the best deal for the items that you're interested in.

(3) Shop early. Most retailers will over a special savings until only noon or 1pm. If you're going to take part in Black Friday you don't want to miss out on this.

(4) Be prepared to wait in line. If you go into the experience with the right expectation then you won't be disappointed. Expect long lines pretty much everywhere. If you're looking to purchase clothing, make sure you know the size ahead of time so as not to spend time in line for the fitting room.

I've noticed this year that there have been a lot of sales this week leading up to Black Friday. This makes me very curious to see how retailers will entice Black Friday shoppers and if they will be successful.

Here's to the beginning of your holiday shopping! Oh...and Happy Thanksgiving! Cheers!
