The Latest Pants Trend for Spring 2020

We’re starting to see all kinds of trends emerge for Spring 2020. Here in the Northeast the weather has been on the warmer side and instead of living in snow pants and parkas, we can actually start wearing some of these trends now. One trend that I actually jumped on as it began to emerge last year is the side stipe.

Pants are incorporating additional detail this season in the form of a side stripe. This detail is showing up in all different kinds of pants from trousers to cargo and even sweatpants. The side stripe can vary from thick to pencil thin, in any number of colors or even patterns! The options are endless. For me, the beauty of this trend is in its simplicity. Rather than a fabric pattern that can be overwhelming to the eye, a side stripe doesn’t steal the attention from your overall outfit. These pants are also very easy to coordinate which makes them versatile in your wardrobe.

The popularity of this side trend makes them currently available at most of your favorite retailers. Find the fit and color that flatters you and your overall wardrobe. This latest trend is a simple and easy way to begin updating your wardrobe for spring fashion. If you need a little inspiration to get started, see a few of my picks below.

Step Up Your Weekend Wear

I was having dinner with some friends a couple weeks ago and a good friend of mine mentioned how she had unexpectedly run into her new boss on the weekend. Like many of us, she was running errands in her sweats and not exactly dressed to impress. She looked at me and said “I should listen to your advice and put on an outfit when I leave the house.” She said it in jest and I laughed because it’s almost inevitable that you’ll run into someone when you’re not ready.

So how do you “dress” for the weekend? Are you running your errands in leggings and sweatpants or your gym clothes? Are you living in leggings on the weekends? This isn’t necessarily a “bad” thing. The key to looking put together is knowing how to pair your items and adding structure to your outfit. Your pieces need to fit your body. Wearing oversized items can make you look “sloppy” on your weekend errands.

Now I get that it’s the weekend and all you really want to do is put on something comfortable. If you’re set on putting those leggings on then by all means please do! And if you want to look put together add a little structure to those leggings. How about a fitted tunic sweater and wedge sneakers? Layer on a quilted vest? How about a tank and long cardigan? You have options for how to pair leggings for a more structured weekend look.

Other options? Jeans are great for the weekend. They come in all kinds of styles and can be easily paired for whatever your weekend has in store. I’m a big fan of Athleta pants. These are comfortable, simple and easily paired. What about a pair of joggers or refined sweatpants? You have options ladies! Make them work for you!

Ok we focused on your bottoms, what about your tops? If you're wearing a tank, add a cardigan and a quilted vest or a t-shirt and a moto-jacket. Throw on a pullover sweater that fits your body. It’s less about what you wear and more about how it fits you. Add a structured jacket over a hooded sweatshirt. Whatever is in your closet can be layered and combined to create a great weekend look. Chances are you have something to build from and will not need to re-create your wardrobe just to get through the weekend.

Take a look at those deep discounts!

Retail is feeling the warmth! “Resort 2020” is out in stores and the new spring lines are coming in. This is great for those who have vacation plans coming up and might be looking for a few new pieces to take with them. But on the daily, we’re still COLD. And we will continue to be cold for months to come. The problem is that you won’t be able to find wear now styles in store in the next few weeks. Why? They are currently on sale at deep discounts and disappearing quick!

So while I know you want to check out the warm weather styles, I also encourage you to take a look at those deep discounts. This is a great opportunity to purchase a couple of additional pieces that could round out your wardrobe or add versatility.

I recently bought a few things for the kids from Old Navy online. I needed to return a pair of pants that didn’t fit and there is store nearby so I popped in to make the return. There was a huge clearance sale going on. It still is. I started looking around the women’s section and end up with 5 pieces in my hands to purchase when I got in the checkout line. These are deals are too good not to share so I’ve included a few of my favorites below.

These pieces are great add-ons to any wardrobe. They are simple, neutral and easy to pair. This is what makes it worthwhile to add items to your wardrobe that you might not be specifically looking for. If you’re impulse shopping or browsing for a deal… look for items that will pair easily in your wardrobe, can be worn in multiple situations that reflect your lifestyle and that make a great extra!
