Clinging to Summer!

I will admit that I am desperately clinging to what remains of summer. This is my absolute favorite season and I have been enjoying the outdoors as much as I can. Here in New England, we have had our share of heat waves this season. We haven’t had enough rain but lots of warmth, sun and high temps.

I have found myself checking the weather before I get dressed in the morning. When the temps are in the 90s or close to, it’s hard to put on anything more than a sundress. I also love the look and feel of a long loose sundress. So warmer temps are my excuse to put them to good use.

Fortunately, summer styles are still in stock at most retailers (even if you’re starting to see fall styles included in new arrivals). With less people shopping in person, inventory is still available and there are plenty of sales to be had, especially with the upcoming Labor Day Holiday. This is a great opportunity to pick up timeless summer styles.

I’ve personally always had luck finding great summer styles at Anthropologie. They always curate a stylish selection of summer dresses that are flattering and versatile. Below I’ve included pictures of two of Anthropologie dresses which I have purchased over the last few years. I have found timeless pieces in their collections which I can wear from one summer to the next!

The first image below is a versatile maxi dress that I can dress up or down for almost ANY occasion. The second image is a slightly more formal style with a high low hem line. Both items are incredibly comfortable and lightweight. These dresses are exactly what the summer heat calls for!

Below I have included a few more highlights from the current Anthropologie collection. Whatever retailer you choose, look for lightweight fabrics in styles that flatter your body type. Keep silhouettes simple in colors that complement your skin tone. You’ll always be most comfortable in clothes that are fit for YOU.

Freshly Cut Styles for Summer

It makes me sad to think about the end of summer. This is clearly my favorite season. But as I’ve been telling you for a few weeks now, where retail is concerned… summer is almost over.

Why do I keep repeating myself? Well, it seems like the sort of intel that you might find useful. If you know that summer is slowing down for retail, you’ll be prepared for all the price slashing you’re seeing and you won’t be surprised when all you find in stores next month are Fall Back to School deals!

So now that you know to expect deep discounts in the near future, how should you proceed? Well, here is my tip… shop now for any remaining summer wardrobe needs you might have. While the sales will keep getting better you will run the risk of inventory running out if you wait. In particular, you run the risk of not finding what you want in your size. That’s usually my biggest hassle! There might be an amazing sale happening but I won’t get to take advantage because the items I desire are no longer available in my size. Over time, I’ve learned to keep an eye on items that I like so when they first go on sale, I can take advantage of a discount but still find items in my size.

This has also been a tip to my clients when shopping. Try on everything you like in a store, regardless of price. That way if you fall in love with something in the dressing room that is a little to steep for your pocket, you’ll know what size you need when the next sale comes along!

Factory Summer Sales

This past weekend I was on the Cape with my family. We drove by the Bass outlet and I was flooded by memories of trips to the outlet as a kid to buy new shoes for school. I told this story to my husband who agreed - he remembered doing the same thing. Going to the outlets use to be a big deal. It was a trip you planned in advance. The whole family would go and there were plenty of steals to be had. Now, the outlets (along with everything else) are all online!

With that said, I forget about the outlets sometimes. Outlet stores are still in abundance but not really near me geographically. So as a result, I do need to plan if I want to make a trip to the outlets. And while having many outlets online is convenient, I don’t always think to go to their websites. But occasionally I remember to check the outlet inventory for something different at a steal. This season does not disappoint. From Banana Republic to the Gap and J.Crew, the outlets are full of cute styles at super low discounts. If you’re looking to add a little extra to your summer wardrobe at a fraction of the cost, these sales are for you!
