Summer Trends - A Familiar Look

Summer is here! This warmer weather is so very welcome! I love getting outside, opening my windows and seeing the sun. After being cooped up in my house for so long I am thrilled to spend time outdoors.

Retail is also beginning to open their doors to the public. It absolutely feels different. Even if the store looks the same. In some cases, layouts have changed, fitting rooms are closed, plexiglass is up and masks are on. But what about summer trends? It used to be easy to walk by store fronts and see the latest trends on display. This is not necessarily the case anymore. Many of us are still shopping online.

Summer trends are taking shape a little differently this season. Often when you looked at online retailers you would see different collections pulled together based on trends. Currently the most popular trends are centered around “cozy at home” shops which feature loungewear at their center.

Other trends peaking this summer include linen, eyelet, ombre and tie-dye. Additionally, rompers & jumpsuits are continuing in popularity as are wide-leg pants and ruffle sleeve blouses. A few of these trends may already be in your closet from last season. If you’re looking to add something new to your wardrobe, I have some picks listed below from Anthropologie but these trends can be found at any of your favorite retailers.

The beauty of these summer trends is that they can all be applied to your wardrobe, whether you want to dress it up or down. Tie dye styles are available in loungewear and in summer dresses. Ombre styles are available in sweatshirts as well as blouses. Whether you plan to dress it up or down this summer, the latest trends have you covered!

Styles to help keep you cool when temps are on the rise

We’ve been experiencing some very hot weather in the Northeast. Last weekend was scorching hot with temps up to 100! Not mention just how muggy it has been. Ideal conditions would allow you to stay home on days like this. But let’s get real… we all have lives to live… jobs, kids, errands, events….our plates are full and we need to get on with life, even in the heat. So what do you wear to live your life in this challenging weather trend?

We need to find ways to stay cool, ladies. I’m all for the maxi dresses but let’s be honest, it can get hot under there. If you’re going to go with maxi or midi length dresses or skirts, keep your fabrics light and breathable. This means stick to cotton or linen. Light colors are also preferable. Black tends to absorb heat. Eyelet is a popular summer trend and a great way to keep cool.

These fabric and color tips are applicable across the board. Lightweight fabrics and light colors are preferable in all your hot weather choices. I think this is why white is so popular in the summer. Not to mention how great it looks with your tan. Then again, white doesn’t flatter every skin tone. Light gray, shades of tan or peach and even a pastel pink will go a long way in your summer wardrobe.

Besides those maxi styles, what should you wear? Wide leg linen pants or crops will work if you want to keep it long. If you’re ready to go short, the infamous sundress can be your go to. Rompers are on trend and come in a variety of styles included strapless, halter, and one shoulder. And finally, feel free to pull on those trusty pair of shorts.

I’ve never been a big fan of the way I look in shorts. Last year we took my kids to Disney World for the first time. I quickly realized the only way to get around Disney in the heat and not completely lose my mind was going to be to wear shorts. So I purchase a bunch of different styles and started trying them on. I am happy to say that shorts have come a long way. From your old school chino shorts to cut off jean shorts and even fancy scalloped linen shorts, there are a lot of choices out there. Still not sold? Or maybe unsure what will look good on you? Time to try them on! That’s the best way to figure out what looks good.

So, if you’re staring at your closet in the morning trying to figure out how to keep cool…. Time to take these tips and start shopping!

Have you found your romper yet?

Did you jump on the romper trend this year? I hesitated last year. I just wasn't sure that it was for me. I ended up buying a beach cover up that was a black strapless romper. I ended up using it quite often. It was so easy as a throw on piece and looked really cute! This year I purchased a second beach romper in a terry cloth material ... and an everyday romper! It's black with a little detail. Perfect for a BBQ or trip to the playground... dress it up or down, it works! I love a versatile piece and the romper fits that description perfectly.

The romper offers a simple solution to your wardrobe. It's a one piece outfit that puts the little bit of trendy into your wardrobe you've been looking for. It flatters almost every body type and can be found in a variety of styles, fabrics and colors. Clients often ask me how they can add edge or the latest trends to their wardrobe. The romper offers an easy solution to both this summer. At this point in the season, many of these styles are also on sale!
