Fun for the Summer... Accessories for the Season!

It’s the beginning of August and it feels like summer is flying by all too quick. Instead of allowing ourselves to be depressed by all the “Back to School” signs, let’s focus on creating our best summer look! With retail tending toward fall, what’s the best way to do that? Let’s focus on accessories.

Do you have jewelry that matches your summer mood? This might be anything that incorporates shells, freshwater pearls, neon color or just white! If you’re looking to put a little more “summer” in your outfit, try to add summer accessories! Let’s focus on earrings for a start.

Whether you prefer something more subtle or a big statement piece, there is something for everyone in the assortment below. A little sparkle or a little color can speak volumes and change a look. Any outfit can be influenced with the right earring.

This past weekend I attended my cousin’s wedding in a navy dress and these adorable turquoise shell earrings. These earrings were the perfect complement to my outfit and a great summer touch for an outdoor wedding! (Oh and my handsome husband make a great accessory too!)

The Importance of Details

I believe that the details are everything. And this is especially true when it comes to your outfit. Put on a white t-shirt and a pair of jeans. This is your base. Now let’s say you’re taking your kids to the playground: add sneakers, a hooded zip up sweatshirt, pearl earrings. What if you’re headed to the movies: add cute flats, a cropped jacket and a pair of hoop earrings. What if you’re headed to drinks with friends at a new trendy bar: add colorful pumps, a moto jacket and statement earrings. The same base outfit can go a long way in your wardrobe if you know how to accessorize it.

For the example above, I stuck with three basics: shoes, earrings & a jacket. But your accessories go well beyond these three. You accessorizes with all your jewelry (earrings, bracelets, necklaces, rings), scarves, handbags, belts, hats and hair accessories. You can use any combination of these to establish your look and style and outfit.

One of the easiest ways to update your look and style an outfit is with earrings, especially if you like the look of a statement earring. A statement earring has a visible presence. It can transform your outfit. This trend has been around for the last few seasons so there is a good chance you may already have a pair of these in your wardrobe. Frame Your Face

This weather is crazy. And to say it poses a challenge to getting dressed in the morning is an understatement. I don't know about you but I still have sweaters in my closet! And it's 90+ degrees outside. I don't exactly have all my summer clothes out and ready to go. However, this is a short lived heat spike and we'll be back in our light weight sweaters by the end of the week. So it's hard to motivate switching out my wardrobe.

Even retail isn't all caught up with this weather. We're just starting to see the new summer arrivals. Most of us are relying on what we already have in our closet to get us through. With that said, you might be wondering what you should be buying now. Spring wear? Summer wear? ... in this heat, maybe just a bathing suit!?!  Considering the rollercoaster of the forecast, you may not want to buy any new outfits until summer really decides to settle in. In which case, how about some accessories to brighten your transition wardrobe?

Earrings are the accessory of the moment and I've found a few that I love from J.Crew and Ann Taylor. A long or dangly earring can draw attention upwards to the face and add a little something extra to your outfit. Earrings can frame your gorgeous face so pick ones that bring out the color in your eyes or complexion. Adding a little color in your earrings can also help your complexion glow!

So it might seem like you're already rushing to get dressed and the idea of adding jewelry to an outfit requires the extra minute you don't have. But believe it or not, a statement pair (similar to those below) will match with almost anything in your wardrobe. And even if you only get to it for evenings out or special occasions, it will be that extra touch that might make the whole outfit!
