beach cover-up

A different kind of summer still needs a cover-up

It’s going to be a different kind of summer for us, and I imagine for many of you as well. With many camps closed and social distancing regulations in place, we are staying closer to home. For us this will mean logging more pool hours than before. Whether it’s the pool or the beach, or just some time out on your deck or patio, this is the time of year I look for comfy and cute over-ups to get through the day.

Cover ups can come in different styles. From dresses to pants to kimonos, there's an option for every preference. Prints and colors also vary in a wide range of choices. Pick what makes you comfortable and works best for your body type. With so many options we should all be able to find a flattering fit.

Finding the right fit and style is more important that some realize. Bathing suits can bring out some of our worst insecurities. But finding the right cover up can be key to feeling your best. When we are comfortable and feel good about how we look it can change our mood completely. Enjoy your summer break and spend less time stressing about what to wear and how you look by getting the right cover-up from the start.

Beaching It With Little Ones

I am a mom of young children. In the summer, I cherish the time I get to go to the beach. Over the years, it’s been difficult to get any alone time... not just at the beach, I mean, in general. So if I want to go to the beach, the kids are coming with me. So I’ve learned a few tips over the years on how to have a successful trip to the beach with kids. I will admit that every year is a new adventure and it takes a few trips before I perfect my packing for the beach skills each summer. The kids are getting older and require different stuff. I have to re-learn how to pack just the essentials for our trip.

My kids are now old enough to walk so I don’t have to worry about strollers anymore. If you’re still in the stroller phase, maximize it by packing it up with as much stuff as you can to free up your carry load. If your kids can walk, they can help you carry stuff. I know you’re probably thinking “yeah, right” but hear me out. I bought my kids beach chairs that fold up into a bag with a handle that they can carry strapped around them (sort of like a backpack) so they are still hands free. For some reason my kids hate carrying things with their hands but seem ok with something strapped to them (small victories for me).

Then there are the essentials: sunscreen, wipes, snacks, towels, hats and toys. Ok, for the toys: keep it as simple as you can. Kids do great with just a bucket and a shovel. My kids are happy just picking up rocks on the beach. You really don’t need a lot of toys.

Now, I’m not an umbrella girl. If I take my kids to the beach they are going to be active. The only time they sit is to eat something. That’s it. So there is little value in my attempt to bring an umbrella. For those with younger kids, it might make more sense to have an umbrella or a tent. If you have very young children you might want to bring a small blow up pool. I use to a bring a small pool that I could blow up on my own. I filled it with bath toys and a little ocean water and it was perfect for a child that can sit up on their own and play. My kids would be so entertained I could actually relax for a minute.

So if you’re anything like me, you’re active with your kids on the beach. I might get to sit down but it won’t be for long. So I want beach cover ups that support that active style. For this reason, I have a number of different beach cover ups in different styles. Long sleeve tunics on colder days, strapless items for sunny days when I want to make the most of my tan. I have a pair of linen pants that I wear to the beach frequently that I love.

Find what works best for you and your beach style. If you’re comfortable in a dress, a romper or pants, there is a cover up that will work for you!
