Skirts

As we transition into Spring I like to think about skirts! I stick to mostly pants in the winter simply for warmth purposes! But with Spring around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about how to incorporate those skirts back into my wardrobe.

Just like any other piece, different styles of skirts flatter different body types. I see pictures sometimes of skirts that look absolutely amazing on the model or person who is wearing it and when I try it on… not the same result! Knowing what type of skirt works best for you will help you not only with shopping but also with streamlining your current wardrobe, and even with tailoring what you already have to make it work for you!

Here are a few suggestions on what to look for in your skirts. This is by no means meant to be an exhaustive list. The most important thing it how you feel when you put it on. This simply might help to trying to figure out what style of skirt might work best for you. If you want to add volume to your bottom half, look for a fuller skirt. If you want to slim your bottom half, look for a tapered style. If you want to create curves, look for a style that curves out slightly.

Another item to consider is the color and print. Keep in mind when pulling together an outfit, where you want to draw the eye. If you choose a print skirt, keep in mind that the eye will be drawn there. If you want the eye drawn upward, keep the skirt in a neutral color or pattern. If you choose a print with horizontal lines, keep in mind it can have the illusion of making you appear wider. If you have a small waist and would like to draw attention there, add a belt or a sash.

Petites: Hemline become important when it comes to Petites. The recommendation is to wear skirts knee length or above. Midi skirts do not work well for Petites. These skirts cut the calf and can make petites appear shorter. Maxi skirts are acceptable but look most flattering when kept slim as opposed to A-line or full.

Curvy: A curvy figure may find that a more streamlined skirt is most flattering. A pencil skirt that stops about knee length would be one recommendation. A slim maxi skirt is also a great option. If you're looking to wear a fuller skirt keep the hem at or just above the knee. For fuller hips and thighs, look for a skirt that is slightly tapered for a more slimming effect.

Boyish figure (less curves): When looking to create curves try a skirt that offers a flare. A trumpet style skirt, whether short or long, will help to create the illusion of curves. A tulip or bubble style skirt will also work well to create curves. For a slimmer bottom looking to add volume, try a fuller skirt that cinches at the waist.

Here are a few examples of the different styles mentioned currently available at Intermix. I hope this offers you some inspiration this Spring!
