Style and Color for the Holidays

Still looking for something to wear to that upcoming holiday party? Or maybe you have several parties to attend and need multiple options. Perhaps you're unsure of what you have in your closet and are considering making a purchases to be on trend. What should you look for?

I've been hearing lots of questions around what is appropriate to wear to a holiday party. If you are unsure of the dress code, always feel free to ask the host. Otherwise, I feel it's always better to be overdressed than underdressed. Unless you are sure that it is a casual affair, stay away from wearing jeans. Opt for a skirt, dress or pants instead. Wear something that puts you in the holiday spirit. Add sparkle. This is the time of year for it!

Don't feel like you have to wear red. For some, red is not the best color to compliment your complexion. Well, wearing a red sweater is not the ONLY way to feel festive! Instead of the typical red sweater, try a pop of red in your bag, scarf or jewelry. Or maybe just red nail polish! Don't have any red in your wardrobe? No problem. Wearing any bright colors or jewel tones can help you feel more festive. Do you tend to prefer neutral tones in your wardrobe? Also, not a problem. Simple black and white can absolutely be worn to any holiday party.

I purchased this top in London last year. I loved it's simple feminine style. Of course, this year the necktie is totally on trend (so I was ahead of curve). I purchased this skirt last year as well from J.Crew Factory. I usually stick to the pencil skirt. I find it slimming and sleek. But something about this skirt called to me and I love it. It's very much a party skirt. And I will say that the flounce nature of the skirt is more flattering than I expected. This skirt flares out from the hips creating a little volume that creates curves in a fun feminine style.

This outfit demonstrates how style can have just as big an impact as color in some cases. The ruffles and detail on the top pair well with the back print and style of the skirt. In this case, the detail of each piece is best showcased on a black and white background. These pieces can also be easily paired for a slightly more casual feel. The top would work well with simple black dress pants (in a variety of styles). The skirt could also work a simple black pullover sweater. Want to add color? Absolutely! A bright colored sweater or a pop of color skirt would pair with these as well!

If you haven't realized it yet, you have lots of options on what to wear this month. As always, wear what makes you comfortable and puts a smile on your face. That's all you need!
