My kids have been sick for what feels like forever but is probably really just a week.
The little one has had an awful cough. He coughed so hard the other night he threw up all over me. Then he cries so hard because he’s scared about what just happened and I feel so bad for the poor thing that I can’t just put him down so we sit there in a wet hug on the floor until he calms down a little. Ugh….
So, I’m home with my little one and I get a call from school that the older one is complaining that his ears hurt…a lot.
<Deep breath>
So, I’m calling the doctor to get his ears checked and the little one checked out while I’m there.
Ok, appointment made for an hour and a half later. Enough time to pack a diaper bag, pick up the older one from school and drive to the doctor. Except. Wait.
I look down. Hmmm.
I’m a hot mess.
<Deep breath>
I wasn’t planning to leave the house. I am in sweatpants and a long sleeve t-shirt. And not the cute Lululemon kind. The Old Navy, I have food stains and boogers from my sick kids all over kind.
Ok, I have about 3 minutes to brush my teeth, comb my hair and change my clothes.
Yikes.
Ok, I do the first two things first while I take mental inventory of what I have in my closet that is both clean and presentable to the outside world. Okay, got it. I have black leggings and a white tunic sweatshirt that could work. Boots, scarf, earrings. Done.
So, I have to admit my first thought was, I’ll just put a jacket over the original hot mess outfit and make sure to keep it on in the doctor’s office. Then I thought, you never know when you might have to take your jacket off so I better pull myself together. And thank goodness I did…. because my little one had to have a chest x-ray and I had to be in the room to help which require me taking off my jacket. It’s like your grandma always says “put on clean underwear every day because you never know when you’ll be in an accident”.
